AN EARLY 12-BORE 'PIGEON GRADE' DOUBLE-TRIGGER OVER AND UNDER EJECTOR, serial no. 4810, with extra barrels,
circa 1931, 30in. nitro barrels with stepped 8mm 'Browning Non-Crossfire Ventilated Rib', engraved at the breech end 'BROWNING Superposed', bead fore-sight and intermediate bead sight, 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 3/4 choke in both;
28in. nitro barrels with 8mm ventilated matt top-rib, 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke;
hold-open toplever, manual safety, carved oak leaf and acorn motifs, border and scroll engraving with central depictions of pigeon in flight, the underside with 'BROWNING TRADE MARK', French gray finish overall, 14 1/2in. figured semi-pistolgrip stock including 'Browning Superposed' marked buttplate, weight 7lb. 9oz. (30in. barrels) and 7lb. 5oz. (28in. barrels), in its original textured leather case with Browning plaque and provision for both set of barrels and with some 1950's State of California hunting licences
Literature: In his book 'THE BROWNING SUPERPOSED - John M Browning's Last Legacy', Ned Schwing refers to the exporting of early Brownings: "...a page taken from the FN shipping records beginning with serial number 4801 and ending serial number 4900. The first twenty Superposed, serial numbers 4801 to 4820, were received by the shipping department in late 1931 and early 1932; most were shipped in the Spring of 1932"
